Why Knowing Truth Matters

I sit here in our room, distant from home, reflecting on all that God has been taking us through & this new place we are in.

A place of waiting, wondering, and seeking.

Waiting for God’s answer, Wondering what the Lord wants to teach us in this new place, and Seeking his presence, wisdom, and comfort continually.

With each battle we face, each battleground we stand, every attack the enemy tries to throw at us, we really must know truth. And I don’t mean know as in “hearing” about it. I mean knowing it in such a way we have pondered on these verses, allowing it to sink into the depths of our heart.

When we dwell in these verses, allowing it to speak to us in our times of hunger, struggle, trial, etc, having it memorized, it sinks deep within our hearts and creates roots so deep they cannot be uprooted. That is knowing truth.

Have you encountered a time where a question was asked that threw you off and left you feeling in a blank moment, like it caught you off guard and you didn’t know how to “defend”- (answer) it?

Imagine a scene, a battleground scene to be exact, where many soldiers are standing their ground. They look prepared, they look ready, they look like they have been trained for this moment. But as the opponents come marching in their territory the soldiers freeze, unsure of what to do next.

This is almost similar to the enemies tactics being thrown at us in the spiritual realm, if we do not know the truth (the Word of God). If it isn’t deeply planted within our hearts and attacks come raging war within our minds and hearts, we would very much freeze like the unprepared soldiers.

If you don’t already know, there is a real enemy who prowls around looking for someone to devour and the way he does that is by speaking lies, hoping it would take root in our minds and hearts. But if we know the truth and put on truth, it overrides the enemies lies.

If we walk through a storm that rages war all around us and we begin to sink because we see the storm bigger than our God, truth must come in to speak to the depths of our hearts and minds to be reminded of what is true. It’s vitally important to know the truth because truth truly sets us free from trying to drown in the sea, from thoughts trying to toxic our hearts, from the enemy trying to deceive us in believing that God isn’t with us.

I want to share a short story of what I walked that helped me to see how important it was, and is, to know truth.

A few months back I began to feel not well. My heart felt crushed like it was caving in, my breathing felt rough and harsh that I began to think I was having a heart attack. I had zero strength to hold myself up. My husband immediately rushed me to the emergency room to be seen. My body shaking was uncontrollable. It was a terrible feeling. The nurses came with the wheel chair and rushed me to a room, asked me questions that I could not answer because my mind was too focused on the pain, while worry began to flood through.. nurses came in hooking me up to all the things, IV being set in, these sticker things that needed to be placed all over my body, and pain medicine to be given to help my body relax and not shake. A few minutes passed and I was wheeled to the back to do an MRI and Cat scan.

My sweet husband and daughter sitting on the chair next to me unsure of what was happening, yet they were ready to go home as this was 3 o’clock in the morning. What did they find the whole four-five hours being there? Nothing. Nothing was found but maybe one thing in my tummy but it wasn’t the cause of what occurred. I laid in the bed wondering what it could be. I only experienced it once before and that was about 6 months back prior to this incident. But it wasn’t intense as this past time. 6 o’clock came and we were headed home. I prayed on the edge of my bed that early morning before I put my head to the pillow and asked God to show me what that was. Weeks passed and here it happened again. This time we didn’t go to the emergency room. Instead I told my husband I need to open up the Word and allow God to speak to me through it while playing worship music. As everyone fell asleep, I did just that. Just me and God alone. Worshipping, praying, and reading the Word the Lord led me through. Psalm 23, Psalm 91, Philippians 4:6-7 and a bit in Matthew. And as I read those, it immediately went away and my night was filled with rest and sleep. Two days later after we ate dinner, I felt it once again but more intense than the times before. I recited Philippians 4:6-7 out loud and told the enemy to get off me now in Jesus name and immediately it lifted off me. I felt released.

I have seen how real the spiritual realm is and how attacks can come in different ways but the tactics are the same. If doctors cannot find anything wrong or having blood drawn along with millions of tests to see there isn’t anything to be found, it could be spiritual. Come to the Father and ask Him to reveal it, He will.

So why does truth matter? Because we have a real enemy who wants to do everything he can to kill, steal, and destroy you. He wants to knock you down and have you stay down. He wants you defeated. He wants you to not get your head in the Word and know and speak truth. Why? Because when we come back at Him with the Sword, the Word of God, it pierces him like a dagger and causes him to fall. Did you know he has to obey and flee when the Word of God is spoken back at him? Yup! He hates the truth (Word of God). It’s the very reason he is called the father of lies because he cannot stand truth. Now do you see how important it is to know truth? Oh friend I hope you are grasping this!

Friend, how I see it is if we can memorize a song, memorize a movie, memorize lines from plays, etc., why shouldn’t we memorize the life-giving, life-nurturing, truth? It’s one of our weapons that is needed in times of battle, one of our pieces of armor that is spoken in Ephesians 6. It’s our protector and shield. Our arsenal.

In this day and time, it is very important to know truth. Not knowing truth sets a trap making it easier to be deceived and attacked, causing us to sink and/or believe lies. But as we believe and speak truth, the life-giving Word, we partner with heaven on what God is saying and the Word rewrites the lies the enemy is trying to plant. John 8:32, Ephesians 6.

Building Your Quiet Time in the Word

5 Myths on Spending Time with God

What season are you currently in that you need verses to bring peace, joy, comfort, encouragement, protection, deliverance, wisdom, etc., in? Answering this will help you to gather verses to begin your learning journey. When it comes to mind what you are in need of, search in the concordance in the back of your bible for what you are needing and pick one to know and memorize. If your bible doesn’t have a concordance try using Blue Letter Bible or YouVersion.

My personal tips: start off slow and be consistent. Be intentional with your time on learning, knowing the Word. Don’t give up. Pick a verse to start off and highlight it. Bookmark it. Leave your bible open to come to it. Write it out on an index card and carry it with you. Create a wallpaper for your phone to see it each time you look down. If you have an Apple Watch, do the same, create a wallpaper for it to see it. Make a song, a tune, a hymn, out of the verse you are memorizing. Write the first letter of each word in the verse you are memorizing on your hand. For Example: Psalm 23:1-2 says “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters,” you then would write on your hand, TLIMSISNW. HMMLDIGP. HLMBSW. Some may find this harder to do and some find it easier to do. You do what will come easier for you to remember. Even if its playing on audio on the Bible app once every hour to help you. Practice each day dear friend and by the time you know it, your heart has stored up these verses and when they are needed, they will come to you in a flash.

My prayer for you sweet friend is that we become women who learn the truth, love the truth, and live the truth, memorize it, reciting it, and holding fast to it because truth protects, guards, and changes everything.
