Training a pup is exhausting

As most of you know, or have heard in the emails, we added a new member back in June. Her name is Summer. I wanted to name her June for that very reason, but seems like everyone liked Summer.

Meet Summer, our very hyper jumpy miniature Aussie.

When I began walking her today I had seemed to got frustrated with the process. To say training is easy, I’d be lying. It is a very time consuming process.

A process.

I love her dearly, but to get to not jump on our door and jump excessively while walking is a whole other level of training.

But today. We walked around the neighborhood and she did fairly well. Until towards the end when we began to get closer to home, she was ready to speed off and head home. Ready to be in her comfort place.

This is when I began to feel ministered.

Despite my frustration on training, I never cease to give up. I continue my time and work in her. Why? Because I love her and want her to not be wild without respecting other dogs, family members, and visitors who come visit.

The very reason the Father comes to us, ministering to us, training us and equipping us to become better disciples and better of ourselves the more we abide in Christ. When we abide in christ, the more of our old motives die off.

God never leaves us in the old patterns but rather he pulls us closer to Him, pruning in us our very old habits and selfish motives so we then can walk in the new place, trained and equipped to becoming a disciple of Christ.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

This is our training. By allowing the Word we read daily, transform our mind and heart to be in one accord with christ.

The same way I have to be intentional about training Summer everyday, to keep her in remembrance of what she learned and can do, the same way, in similarity, we are when the Father trains us. Everyday we are trained by the Word. It takes root in our hearts.

I am reminded of how Great of a Father we have that never leaves us in our old places, patterns, but trains us to become new in the new places.

And each time I get a little frustrated with training my Summer girl, I simply remind myself of the grace my Father has for me in times I don’t seem to be “easy” to train.
