As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

As I was getting ready in that hotel room, I was remembering the sweet divine moment we had with some dear friends of ours the night before. We met up at this Mexican restaurant, because hello Mexican food is delicious! They had moved away from our home city and we missed them all dearly so much, so to see they were only an hour or less away from us, they made the drive to meet us for dinner. What a sweet treat it was to meet them and have that moment of release and peace at the same time.

The exchanged words that we both gave one another, one daughter falling asleep and the other wanting to sit next to them because she missed them so. The laughter, the tears, the uplifting life speaking words also being given was so needed in that time.

My husband and I didn’t realize how much we needed life speaking words to be spoken over us. And little did we know, the Lord set that time up perfectly because he gave them words that would bring confirmation to us in what we were standing for, even though they had no clue in that time. It truly was something magnificent to see how the Lord aligns everything up in His time.

We often think we can do life alone without others around us. Hiding in a shell and not being a people person. Or just neglecting to meet with others because of whatever reason…

But I am here to say, friendships are so needed. They bring life to the bones when God uses them. They bring encouragement when God leads them. They bring truth into the matter when God brings them in boldness with grace. God uses friendships in so many ways and when its times like these where you need reassurance, confirmation, life friendships, some sharpening, encouragement, God sends them your way.

He didn’t send a whole crowd to us, but ones who would stand their ground with us, fighting for us in prayer, believing in the miraculous with us. He sent them.

He does this friend. He sends you what and who you need in due time. His timing truly is always perfect and on time never early never late. He indeed brings you who you need to uplift you and encourage you in the times you feel like life has knocked you down. Yes Jesus is there. And Jesus will always be here with us. But He also gives us friends to have human connection with in hard times like this to walk with us through them.

Not only do they get to witness God’s glory and transformation in it all, but their faith gets built, and deepens even more in Christ. It stirs up more things that Christ wants revealed for them, that can only be seen when they witness what Christ is doing in your life.

So friend, ask the Lord, “Who are my true disciple friends? Ones who will lead me to you and point me to you, not to the world or speak what is contrary to your Word?”

Who has the LORD placed on your heart to reach out to and you haven’t followed through? Take a minute today and pray, asking the Lord who you need to pray for and/or reach out to.
