Tuning Out the Shouts of the World

I’m use to noise in the background when I’m either reading the Word or studying the Bible. Whether I have worship music softly playing or my kids noise in the back or something going. But lately I’ve been led to a much more quiet place. Being led into a place where no music, no sound but crickets are sounding and birds are chirping, where the small sound of grass being blown (you’ll be surprised to hear it does make a sound), to tune out the noise in the background to hear the gentle whisper of his voice.

It’s hard getting into a quiet place with littles. But it’s doable even if it’s just 15 minutes. In just 15 minutes so much can be revealed. Actually just in 2 minutes ALOT can be revealed! And I know that’s a FACT because he has shown me something wonderful back here in just 2 min!

God’s voice isn’t a loud thunder or a loud voice, nor is it a “BOOM” kind of voice. Instead it’s more of a gentle whisper.

Sometimes we have to take a step back from the utter noise of the world, and walk into a place where it’s silent so he can teach and show us mighty and great things. So we can hear HIM speak to us in our hearts. To be filled.

This season is a season to hear him more than we ever have in our life.

So friend, take time out of your day, if I can do it with 4 kids you surely can too, out of your day at least 15 minutes and go into a silent place. No worship music, no sound, just a heart ready to receive what he wants to show. Open in prayer and just say “okay Lord reveal yourself to me, show me and tell me what it is that you want to share with me. Show me your wonderful works and may your presence be so mighty and big that I can see and be filled with it.”

The shouts of the world tune out the gentle whispers of the Lord.

Shouts of the world can be things that are much louder than his voice. It could be TV, it could be music, it could be busy schedules, it could be background noise, it could our hearts not in focused with Him….

Right now that we are in a forced rest, let’s take advantage of coming to the throne of grace, getting to know him more deeply than just know about him, and let’s grow where he has planted us right here in this moment. And when we come out of this, we will be in full bloom ready to pour out into the world.

It’s okay if you struggle to get silent. It’s okay if you don’t know where to begin. It’s okay to want 15 minutes to yourself and God, he will bless it more than you can fathom! He wants our hearts and he wants our desires to be aligned with His Will.
Receive! Receive! Receive!

Personal Reflection:

  • What shouts are being louder than his voice?
  • What is taking up space in your heart from spending time with him today?
  • How can you change your priorities?
  • What is he speaking to you?
  • Evaluate today, reprioritize and put him first.
  • Schedule at least 15 minutes each day to be with him alone.
