Jesus and Emotions
My emotions want to take over. They want to cave in and hide. They want to shut the whole world out and I want to just sit in this dark room with curtains shut and no light shining through.
It all seems too much to face. It’s only been a week as of today, Monday, yet here I am fighting and pushing through. Not in my own strength because I have none, but in Gods strength. It’s only in Him and by Him that I am able.
It seems hard. It seems too much to handle. And it can be. And when it is, we release it to God to trust in Him and what He has for us. He knows far beyond what we know and can handle more than what we are able to. When it all seems to much to handle, that’s when we run to Him not the opposite, for joy, strength, for comfort when we need it in the dark places of our hearts. We come to Him when we want to shut the world out so He can speak so tenderly and loving to us to restore our soul. We draw near to that well, he leads us to the spring of life where there is everlasting water that refreshes and restores our soul.
Without Him, I wouldn’t be here. I would be in that dark place. But because I was in that dark place once before, I don’t want to go down that road again because there is nothing there for me besides death. Death of hope. Death of faith. Death of belief. Death of light. And because there is no death in God, only life, I run to the one who sustains and gives me life with every breath I take and walk I make. He has been and always is good! Despite my circumstances, despite changes, despite the storm, HE IS GOOD and Jesus goes above my emotions.
Maybe you too are experiencing emotions bigger than you can handle.
Maybe you too can’t seem to see light in the day and you want to sit in that place where curtains are shut and you want to just cry it out.. whatever it may be…
Can I just say that it is okay to cry it out with Jesus! Jesus grieved over his friend Lazarus. Jesus wept. Jesus felt feelings as we do, but He also didn’t sit there and allow emotions to take over. He stood in His place and began to show us how to handle the feelings.
We must learn to rest in Him, run to Him, and allow Him to lead us to the healing well waters where He restores our soul.
Friend, there is no more hiding. No more running away. No more trying to sit in the dark place but rather share with Him exactly how we feel. And He will then replace our emotions, the heavy burdens, the hurt, the pain, with His Shalom that is truly life-giving. Recite truth to your soul and allow it to sink in deeply. Recite and repeat until your soul begins to feel refreshed. Allow the life-giving Word of God fill you up dear friend…
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures He leads me besides still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his names sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” – Psalm 23
