The Road Less Traveled
I would hear this phrase, “the road less traveled” and often wondered what it truly was that they were referring too.
We may think, “oh it’s just another road” or “What road are they referring too?” It wasn’t until I began my walk with Christ when I began to see what Jesus was saying to me, this is the road less traveled. We all want to walk with Christ, only to see the challenges, the storms, the pain it causes. We then wonder how it is that the other road has more travelers and less here.
The road less traveled isn’t for everyone. The road that is less traveled was the road Christ walked too.
So very few walk this road because of many reasons. And I was one of them. One who walked the road of wanting the worlds popularity, the culture standards, the world’s dilemma, and well… “Everyone else is walking the other road, shouldn’t i? I don’t want to be the only one walking this narrow road.” Only to find myself craving more and more, less satisfied.
Honestly, the road less traveled, the road Jesus took, wasn’t the easy road but the hard one. It’s the very reason Matthew 7:13-14 says its the narrow gate. Narrow road, because many choose to not walk it when life gets tough, when Christ uproots the ugly within and transforms you to become better. Not many want to let go of the temporary “riches” in this world for the sake of the One who laid his life down for us.
We see difficulty. We even see rejection from his own people, we see persecution, we see false rumors spread, we see others envy because they want the glory that only Christ and Abba Father deserve.
What we see on the road most traveled is that many don’t know Christ themselves. Worldly passions and pursuits are being followed and their hearts are becoming more sick and hope deferred as they seek the endless pursuits in this world. A chasing the world falsely advertises.
The road less traveled is hard. Painful. Tears falling down the cheeks. Followers are now unfollowing you as you share and walk with Jesus. We feel the hurt of rejection from others. We feel the stink of not being invited. We see betrayal.
But what we also see is a life of eternity with Christ.
What we see is joy that the world desperately seeks, yet finds none.
We carry this peace that Jesus gives, that others desperately try and find but find none.
We see life through a new lens by letting go of the world’s standards and living all for Christ.
We see the freedom it brings when we sit at the feet of Jesus and not chasing the world.
We see the endless pursuits of chasing the world now became dead as we now have a heart to go after the One who rescued us. Who left the 99 for us.
The road more traveled is a road to seek and live for themselves, not for Christ.
A “follow your heart and do as you want,” a self fulfilling pleasure, seeking glory for yourself, boasting of yourself, never fully free or saved from the one who came to die so that we MAY have life.
What we see are trends being pursued and the chasing after their hearts desires rather than Christ himself.
What we see is empty depleted-ness that isn’t being solved in the world’s agenda.
The road less traveled, where very few take, isn’t a road to feel burn out when we take it. But rather a road we embrace, pursue, and endure on.
Is it hard?
Absolutely.
Is it worth it?
A BIG ABSOLUTELY.
We may not be like the world, we may not look like the world, we may be called “conspiracy theorist” “holy (insert name here), and “Jesus freaks,” but this doesn’t stop us from living for the ONE who saved us and called us into His family.
Where the world is screaming fit bodies, vegetarian eating, organic living, holistic health, chase your passions, follow your heart, leave that marriage and find another, selfies at every angle, do all the trends, video everything you do, screaming sales at target just to have you spend more than you should be, a world that wants you enslaved to live like the world…. Here the road is… the road less traveled, less burdened, nothing like the world.
Are these things wrong? Not necessarily. But if not careful, these worldly things do take our eyes off Jesus when we begin to fill ourselves or look onto our own selves rather than Christ himself.
Very few walk this road, hint, reason its called road less traveled, because a choice is being made to live for fame, for themselves, for their own personal gain and glory, not wanting to give up what Christ wants them to give up. They don’t see the eternal reward, only the temporary satisfaction and fleeting pleasures this world offers.
A hidden blindness that cannot be shown unless they choose Christ and Christ reveals himself to them.
A hidden treasure we find on the road less traveled.
A soul healing, heart healing, cup overflowing of LIFE on the reload less traveled.
Only if we could wake up everyday, to choose and see the blessing it is to walk on the road less traveled.
What a blessing it is to see that we, who are rejected from the world, are in the right place as we live for Christ.
What an honor it is to walk on the road less traveled, knowing we are not alone, because Christ once walked it too, and walks in it with us now.
The road less traveled, a road that very few find and endure on, has a beautiful harvest with an eternal reward.
As for me, that is all I want, is to live for Christ. Not for myself. Not for the world’s standards or agendas. Not to even look like the world but to look like Christ. Even if rejection stings, because it does, even if followers begin to unfollow because I speak truth, even if I say no to certain shows… I am here to please Christ and live for Him. Not what the world wants me to do or what others are doing but only what Christ is calling me to do.
May Christ reign in me always and forever, as well as you. May His name be made known in all walks of my life, as well as you. And may He always receive all the glory, honor and praise. For he deserves it all.
