When I Feel Unseen & Unloved
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not being hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.” Psalm 139:13-15
Middle school is where it all began. The name calling, the laughs, the sneaky looks that are quickly turned away.
I had very thick hair, curly too, and the names that were given pierced my heart in ways that changed my attitude and how I viewed myself.
I never had a crowd or big following as the cheerleaders and popular kids did.
Even to this day, it seems the same, the most popular kids that grew into adults, or the ones who follow the world seem to have bigger followings.
Sometimes its in these times we begin to feel unseen and unloved. We feel something is wrong with us and begin to buy into the lie.
God loves us deeply, he showed it by sending His son, Jesus, to this place called earth, to die for us.
He did what no man could do. Yet, even when Jesus was here, people overlooked him. People never realized he was there. Nobody saw He was the Messiah even when he stood right in front of their eyes.
Friend, I know sometimes it hurts when you feel overlooked on social media. I get that. I know you see a big crowd following others and not you. I understand it. I see the hurt of the invitation you never received and somehow feel unloved from it. I hurt with you. But we don’t have to stay in this place.
Jesus came because he saw us. Even to this day, right now, he sees you. He feels the hurt you feel and the pain deep inside.
If we care so much about the big following, doing reels to be caught up in the latest trends, or even trying to create posts to be seen, what are we doing it for?
Rather we should ask this, who are we doing it for?
May we be reminded, preaching the gospel to ourselves, these truths:
- Christ came to dwell with us. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
- We are His, not forgotten. We are His beloved, chosen and holy ones. Colossians 3:12
- Just because we have felt overlooked, unseen, and unloved doesn’t mean we are unseen and unloved from God. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forevermore. Hebrew 13:8
I know it hurts sister. But lets be reminded of truth, be anchored in truth and knowing who we are and who we belong to.
